The Joint Universities Centre was established in 2003 as a co-operative venture between the Departments of General Practice at Melbourne and Monash Universities. The Joint Universities Centre is contracted to provide a broad ranging educational program to registrars enrolled in the Australian General Practice Training Program through the Victorian Metropolitan Alliance. Activities include fortnightly small group workshops, quarterly weekend seminars, online learning and in-practice feedback sessions. The Joint Universities Centre also provides educational activities to fully qualified GPs and those seeking to expand their skills, including researching medical education and training. Academic RegistrarsThe Department of General Practice offers full-time and part-time positions in academic general practice. These positions provide a year of advanced training in academic general practice to interested general practice registrars. Participating registrars develop academic skills through a range of duties including project work, research activities, medical editing, developing teaching skills and involvement in student assessment. A senior academic supervisor provides guidance, feedback and mentorship to support registrars. Junior general practice academics are fostered in a creative, highly supportive and strongly research oriented department. Training posts can be tailored to meet the interests of individual registrars.
