ICM 2
During ICM 2, students will acquire clinical skills relating to the gastrointestinal system. The teaching program in ICM 2 is structured so that students are able to explore issues relating to the psycho-social elements of medicine. Students will build on their basic communication skills and apply them in a clinical setting. They will learn how to interview patients about gastrointestinal problems, nutrition and alcohol intake and to perform a basic examination of the gastrointestinal tract. Students will also be taught the correct technique for hand-washing.
Core objectives
- Characterise a presenting problem.
- Demonstrate ability to interview a patient regarding:
- Gastrointestinal system.
- Nutritional history and alcohol history.
- Demonstrate ability to carry out a basic gastrointestinal system examination and anthropometric measurements.
- Demonstrate ability and understanding of effective hand-washing technique.
