ICM 1
ICM 1 will introduce students to the basic concepts of communication and interview skills in the clinical setting. Using interactive learning techniques such as role-play and simulated patients, students will have the opportunity to practise these skills. Constructive feedback will be provided by peers, tutors and simulated patients based on performance criteria.
Core objectives
By the end of ICM 1, students should be able to:
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of listening and responding skills.
- Develop strategies to cope with the barriers of communication and therefore enhance the doctor-patient relationship.

- Take a contextual social history.
- Assess the strengths and weaknesses of their individual communication styles.
