Dr Irene Blackberry is a research fellow in Primary Care at the Department of General Practice at the University of Melbourne. She coordinates the Patient Engagement And Coaching for Health (PEACH) study, a NHMRC funded cluster randomised clinical trial investigating the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of a patient focused chronic disease self-management program in improving outcomes for people with type 2 diabetes from a disadvantaged community.
Irene is also a Research Fellow at the NHMRC Centre of Clinical Research Excellence in Clinical Science in Diabetes (Diabetes CCRE). |

Dr Irene Blackberry has a medical background and has extensive experience in research particularly clinical trials. She has completed her PhD in 2002 examining the role of diet and other risk factors in predicting survival amongst longevity cultures around the world. This research project has been conducted under the auspices of the International Union of Nutritional Sciences in conjunction with the World Health Organization. She currently has a joint appointment at the National Ageing Research Institute, where she manages a large randomized controlled trial investigating the effectiveness and cost effectiveness of a multidisciplinary intervention for older people. Her research interests include clinical trial, public health, diabetes, chronic disease, primary care, geriatric medicine and clinical nutrition. |
