  Dr Marie Pirotta is a part-time senior lecturer. Her research interests are evidence-based complementary therapies for common problems encountered by general practitioners and women's health.

professional history
  Dr Marie Pirotta has been an academic general practitioner with the Department of General Practice, University of Melbourne since 1995. Marie completed her PhD in 2005, which examined whether one popular and commonly used complementary therapy, the probiotic lactobacillus, can prevent post-antibiotic vulvovaginitis, using a randomised controlled factorial trial based in the primary care setting. She has used other research methods also, including mail-out and waiting room surveys, audit of hospital and GP medical records and tests for diagnostic accuracy.
