Associate Professor Kelsey Hegarty is Equity and Staff Development coordinator and Chair of Examiners. She has been involved in mental health and partner abuse research in general practice over the past 15 years. Kelsey also has extensive experience teaching doctors and practice nurses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and plays a major role in the new Postgraduate Diploma in Primary Care Nursing. |

Assoicate Professor Kelsey Hegarty's research experience includes depression and partner abuse projects. For her PhD, she developed a new measure of domestic violence the Composite Abuse Scale(blurb) , which is the first Australian validated multidimensional measure of partner abuse. She is co-editing a book on "Intimate partner abuse for health professionals" which will be published in 2004. She is on a Cochrane review (with overseas academics) of screening and interventions for domestic violence. She is chief investigator on 2 NHMRC grants, a longitudinal study of depression in general practice and a RCT of lay advocates for women who have experienced abuse. She has practised as a general practitioner for over 15 years. |
