A model of professionally based social support for patients with depression |
| thesis description |
| |
Although research shows that strong social ties are positively associated with mental health it is unclear if they can actually facilitate recovery among people who have depression, rather than simply act as a buffer against developing depression in the first place. General practitioners see the majority of people diagnosed with depression and are in an ideal position to provide support as an intervention. This study aims to explore the role that general practitioners (GPs) play in the social network of people who have depression and to explore whether support provided by GPs can help facilitate recovery. |
